We're Here Because We're Here, For One Year
FurBabies celebrated its first anniversary on GoComics on June 5.
I never thought I’d get this far.
It was insane to start a third career at age 65, in comic strips, at a time when newspapers were in decline.
Once I started I did not think I could continue for long. I even drew a ‘final’ comic strip where the FurBabies characters say goodbye to the audience and thank them.
A variation on that comic appeared on June 5 and is excerpted above. Here is the rest of it:

Online comics are an entirely different breed of cat from newspapers. The reader can create their own comics page by subscribing to individual comics.
I’ve met some wonderful cartoonists and wonderful readers. It’s been quite a year.
I want to thank everyone who reads the strips and thank GoComics for taking a chance with an older cartoonist who was shifting over from animation.
It’s much more fun than doing whatever old people are supposed to do when they retire.
Thank you all and there will be some more updates soon (new podcasts are about to drop)
Congratulations! Thanks for sharing your talents with us. And, thanks for being a great example for starting a new career. We’ve chatted on GoComics (Solarbear), wanted to add our last names are similar — seems like one could be a misspelling of the other, as I’m sure you too have had issues with that through your life (my last name is Biemer).
Congratulations, Nancy. Wishing you many more cartooning anniversaries (I'm celebrating 25 years as a professional cartoonist this month and hadn't even realised that until I read your post and did the maths!).
