We're in Print!
The first FurBabies book collection is officially official today!
Happy New Year, everyone!
I’ve been a little quiet recently (which is completely out of character) because I was busy working on this book collection along with the 2026 strips. The comics go in a completely bonkers direction in January, which is as it should be. Cat and Dog Logic is not human, and I hope to keep the FurBabies in their own universe in 2026.
In the meantime, there is this book…
It came about by accident, just like the original FurBabies strip. Here’s how it happened. In September, 2025, I was at the Word on the Street festival in Toronto. This is the largest literary book festival in Canada and it also has the coolest name. Click on it to see what it looked like in 2025.
Now, I react to book fairs the same way I react to chocolate fairs (Yes, they have them, and yes, I go to them). I wind up walking around in a state of happy goofiness. There were so many unusual books I didn’t know where to look first. There were a few indie cartoon publishers and then there was a table for TellWell Press. TellWell is a Vancouver-based ‘assisted self publishing’ company that has a nice line of cookbooks, memoirs, and kids’ books. Some are best sellers. The books are print on demand and can be ordered online or through brick and mortar stores.
2025 was was their first time at the festival, and they had a contest: they would award a basic publishing package to the best entry. I filled out a little form describing what I wanted: a collection of my FurBabies comics from 2023 and 2024. I sent links to the GoComics Furbabies page and my own website.
I won the prize.
TellWell had never previously published a collections of comic strips so this came as a complete surprise to me. “You offer 8 illustrations in this package, I have over 500. What do I do?” After a discussion with the publisher, and a bit of thought (again, completely out of character) I upgraded to the ‘professional’ package, which means I effectively get a huge discount on a full color book of cartoons. I wound up paying the same amount that I paid for the design and distribution of my first self published book, HOW I FINALLY GOT TO LIVE A CAT’S LIFE, in 2022. The difference is that I get help on marketing and distributing it so I don’t run into the problems that I ran into with the Cat’s Life.
I was a little cautious as a result of that first experience, and so I did a lot of research on Tellwell. They had a great set of reviews and are even listed with the Better Business Bureau (nice.) While I was doing that they were also researching me! “Your comic strip was a LOT better than we thought it would be, and we think that it will do well!”
So this was a gamble that I was willing to take, and here we are in 2026, and here it is. It is 204 pages long and there are 519 daily and Sunday strips. There are exactly four pages of text. I edited out 91 strips that I thought were either not in character or not as well drawn as later ones. One of them had the title gag so I can reuse it in 2026!
So tell your friends, and watch this space for updates.
Enjoy.

Congratulations, Nancy. I am so happy for you, and I can guarantee I will buy a copy of your book as soon as it is out. That Toronto book festival looks like a lot of fun. I wonder how one goes about being invited to the Word On The Street festival?
Congratulations, Nancy! I'm very excited for the book and will be sure to place an order for my copy. Very happy for you.
